Susan's Grandbabies
I am so happy to finish this pencil drawing and very satisfied with the results. These are my twin grandsons at 1 year old. I appreciate the feedback of "fresh eyes" from Betsy and fellow students to help with the composition and the encouragement to take my time and enjoy the process. A big learn from this drawing was how to take faces from one photo, combine with bodies and background of another, and alter the background with addition of flowers to improve the composition.

icebreaker.jpg
A painting I did earlier this week. Its called "Icebreaker" because for the last two months I have not done one thing! Got sick and lost all my motivation and energy. Then I got an issue of "Watercolor" magazine and it had two articles in it of really interesting ideas for putting texture via a collage process in paintings! It called up memories of the your 'peanut' project, which was so fun, and it motivated me to just go ahead and have some more fun with it and it was a blast! I used illustration board and transfer paper, as the article directed. But, I also used paper from the shredder and shavings from the pencil sharpener for the birch 'leaves'! Most of the painting is sponged on although there is some brush work. I had more fun wandering around thinking 'will this work?' and "why not?'. It broke the ice for me and I am anxious to get working again. The paint is gouache and the scene is from my studio window.
